Dev. —Arts Commission PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Martha Shannon, 919/968-2011 <br /> PURPOSE: To authorize the Orange County Arts Commission (OCAC) and staff to apply by <br /> the March 1, 2016 deadline for annual Designated County Partner (DCP) renewal with the NC <br /> Arts Council in order to receive state Grassroots Program funds for Orange County. <br /> BACKGROUND: Nominated by the Board of County Commissioners in 1985, approved by the <br /> NC Arts Council in 1985, and annually renewed by the NC Arts Council since 1985, the OCAC <br /> has served as the Local Distributing Agent (now called Designated County Partner) in Orange <br /> County for 30 years, acting in accordance with this state program authority for administering and <br /> determining the expenditure of Grassroots Program funds appropriated by the NC General <br /> Assembly. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact for FY 2015-2016. The estimated FY 2016- <br /> 2017 allotment of state funds to Orange County through the Grassroots Program of the NC Arts <br /> Council is $32,590. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br /> this agenda item: <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND <br /> INEQUITY <br /> The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or color; <br /> religious or philosophical beliefs; sex; gender or sexual orientation; national origin or <br /> ethnic background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential or economic <br /> status. <br /> The impact of arts projects for traditionally under-served populations and geographic location is <br /> a part of the grant evaluation criteria across all OCAC grant categories. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board authorize the Orange <br /> County Arts Commission and staff to apply by the March 1, 2016 deadline for Designated <br /> County Partner (DCP) renewal from the NC Arts Council in order to receive state Grassroots <br /> Program funds for Orange County. <br />
