i~ <br />EDUCATION <br />Improve access to educational opportunities at pre- <br />institutional, primary, secondary and postsecondary levels, <br />eliminate barriers to equal educational attainment in pre- <br />collegiate educational institutions and promote Orange <br />County's families' ability to provide home environments that <br />will improve a child's educational outcomes. <br />® Strive to make parenting and child development resources available and <br />accessible to parents, guardians and other persons responsible for caring for <br />children. <br />® Advocate that school systems develop a local public school curriculum that is <br />reflective of the experiences of people of color, women and other <br />underrepresented communities. <br />® Advocate that school systems educate school family counselors on issues of <br />bullying that include but not limited to cultural and ethnicity issues and <br />lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. <br />® Advocate that schools systems produce a plan with measurable benchmarks <br />and outcomes aimed at reducing the achievement gap between people of <br />color and Caucasian students. Ensure significant consequences for unmet <br />benchmarks. <br />Support legislation that will allow the American born children of immigrant <br />parents in North Carolina to attend North Carolina Universities as in-state <br />residents. <br />RANGE COUNTYSOCIAL JUSTICE, GOAL REPORT Page 12 of 59 <br />
