OPENING REMARKS FROM THE CHAIR <br /> 28 Chair McKee welcomed everyone to the meeting. He noted that there were two items <br /> 29 for the public hearing, to be followed by one work session item. He noted the following items at <br /> 30 the Commissioners' places: <br /> 31 - PowerPoint for item C-1: Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Text Amendment Sexually <br /> 32 Oriented Businesses <br /> 33 - PowerPoint for item C-2: Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Text Amendment <br /> 34 Display of Vehicles at Motor Vehicle Sales/rental Land Uses <br /> 35 <br /> 36 B. PUBLIC CHARGE <br /> 37 Chair McKee dispensed with the reading of the public charge. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 C. PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS <br /> 40 <br /> 41 1. Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Text Amendment -To review government- <br /> 42 initiated amendments to the text of the UDO regarding sexually oriented businesses. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 BACKGROUND: <br /> 45 As defined within NCGS 14-202.10 a sexually oriented business means, "Any <br /> 46 businesses, or enterprises that have as one of their principal business purposes, or as a <br /> 47 significant portion of their business, an emphasis on matter and conduct depicting, describing, <br /> 48 or related to anatomical areas and sexual activities." <br /> 49 The County cannot prohibit sexually oriented businesses outright but is afforded the <br /> 50 opportunity to regulate their location and certain operational characteristics in an effort to ensure <br /> 51 identified secondary impacts are mitigated. <br />
