Examples include automobile <br />assembly, commercial aircraft, ship building, energy production facilities, chemical <br />manufacturing, and petroleum refineries. <br />Manufacturing of high value, mid to low bulk products.- High wages, large capital <br />investment, but fewer support businesses than high bulk. Examples include satellites, <br />sophisticated electronic devises, medical equipment, and pharmaceuticals. <br />Sophisticated Infooronaatrion or Technical Services.- High wages, average capital <br />investment, but few support companies are needed. These businesses perform tasks <br />which require highly educated and experienced individuals in the disciple of the <br />company. Examples include insurance actuaries, financial management, major <br />engineering and architectural firms, software development, computer systems design, and <br />marketing research. <br />Transportation of products. High wages, large capital investment. Examples include <br />major trucking, rail, air, and port facilities dedicated to the handling and movement of <br />products. <br />Research and Development. High wages and oftentimes high capital investment. <br />Support companies are usually few in number but high in quality. Examples include the <br />development of pharmaceuticals, electronic components, nuclear energy, industrial <br />metals, and photonics. An ancillary "testing facility" ' adds more impact. One of the <br />greatest benefits is the opportunity for "Start -Up" companies as result of the research. <br />Federal Gove'rn�rr ent. One of the highest average wages of any industrial sector. <br />Typically a consistent employer with annual wage increases greater than the rate of <br />inflation. Difficult to recruit, however, as oftentimes locations are determined via the <br />"political" process. Examples include a regional headquarters for the IRS, major postal <br />distribution facility, military installations, and research facilities. <br />Corporate Heaadquaarrters. High to medium wages, depending on the activity at the <br />headquarters. Few support companies needed.
