State Trails in North Carolina <br /> State trails are units of the state parks system. <br /> Unlike traditional state parks, the state trails are constructed and managed by a variety of <br /> partners. <br /> o Mountains-to-Sea State Trail <br /> o French Broad River State Trail <br /> o Yadkin River State Trail <br /> o Deep River State Trail <br /> o Fonta Flora State Trail <br /> Mountains to Sea State Trail <br /> When complete... <br /> • 1000+ miles long <br /> • Pass through more than 30 counties <br /> • Link numerous small towns, cities, national parks and forests, wildlife refuges and state <br /> parks <br /> • Extend from Clingman's Dome to Jockey's Ridge State Park <br /> "...a trail that would give North Carolina and national visitors a real feel for the sights, sounds <br /> and people of the state." --Howard Lee <br /> Mountains to Sea State Trail <br /> Master Plan <br /> Goals: <br /> • Promote completion of the MST by engaging stakeholders <br /> • Confirm the guiding vision and established corridor for the MST <br /> • Gather and consolidate information about each segment <br /> • Engage agencies, non-profit organizations and volunteers throughout the planning <br /> process <br /> • Define and prioritize segments for future planning <br /> • Develop tools to support trail partners in planning, constructing, maintaining and <br /> promoting the MST <br /> Other Planning Efforts <br /> Countywide planning: 19 counties along the MST planning corridor have developed plans to <br /> support trails and recreation in their communities <br /> Regional planning: The State Trails Program facilitated a series of regional plans organized <br /> around various Councils of Government <br /> • Piedmont Triad COG Plan <br /> • High Country Regional Trail Concept Map <br /> • Isothermal Planning and Development Commission Trail Plan <br /> • Land of Sky COG Regional Trails Plan <br /> • Southwestern Commission COG <br /> • Western Piedmont COG Final Regional Trail Plan <br /> • Croatan Regional Trails Plan <br /> Other Planning Efforts <br /> State Trail Planning: <br />
