Care and Feeding of Volunteers <br /> • Solicit through press releases, social media, government and university list-serves, high <br /> school and scout groups <br /> • Save contact info to cultivate experienced volunteers <br /> • Send info to the group so they are well prepared <br /> • Give goodies <br /> • Thank you note with diversion results <br /> Small, Medium and Large Events <br /> • How many people? Venue footprint? <br /> o Volume of waste, scale of operations <br /> • How will the waste be managed? <br /> • What level of diversion engages the organizer? Just recycling or compost too? <br /> • How much help is needed... how much help do they have? <br /> • What is being served? <br /> • What can be recycled, replaced, or eliminated <br /> • Recommend durables first, work backwards <br /> Employee Picnic <br /> • Trade offs <br /> • Reusable, recyclable, compostable <br /> • Convenience, cost, availability of resources <br /> • Never leave waste alone <br /> o MUST have someone minding the trash sort <br /> • Level of diversion depends on the organizer, their interest and ability <br /> Small Events <br /> • 300 people or less. Consistently 95%+ waste diversion <br /> Medium Sized Events <br /> • One - two thousand people; drop containers and collect the "results" <br /> • Walk for Education <br /> • Ramblin Rose/ Bike and foot races <br />
