3 <br /> 4. The Department on Aging has received additional revenue for the following programs: <br /> • Health Promotion Activities — receipt of an additional $3,162 from the N.C. <br /> Division of Aging and Adult Services for evidence-based health promotion <br /> activities. <br /> • Family Caregiver Support Program — receipt of an additional $11,426 from the <br /> N.C. Division of Aging and Adult Services for caregiver services. <br /> • Public Television — a $2,644 donation, from UNC Health Care, in support of "In <br /> Praise of Age," a weekly talk show about senior issues. <br /> This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these revenues (See <br /> Attachment 1, column 4). <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is <br /> applicable to these agenda items: <br /> • GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY <br /> The reduction of risks from vehicle/traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, <br /> gang activity, substance abuse and domestic violence. <br /> Evidence-based exercise programs and support for caregivers can reduce injuries and <br /> stress for older adults and their caregivers. <br /> Library Services <br /> 5. Orange County Library Services has received a Library Services and Technology Act <br /> (LSTA) Grant award of $17,882. The grant requires matching funds in the amount of <br /> $4,471. These funds will be used to purchase technology for Youth Services at the Main <br /> branch and include: five internet access computers, five early literacy iPads, and five <br /> school-age iPads for public use, as well as one iPad for staff training and app evaluation. <br /> This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these grant funds and budgeted funds <br /> in FY 2015-16 will cover the local match. (See Attachment 1, column 5) <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are <br /> applicable to this agenda item <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION <br /> AND INEQUITY <br /> The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or <br /> color; religious or philosophical beliefs; sex, gender or sexual orientation; national <br /> origin or ethnic background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential <br /> or economic status. <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and funding <br /> necessary for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care for <br /> themselves and their dependents. <br /> • GOAL: ENABLE FULL CIVIC PARTICIPATION <br />
