Edwards, NCDOT <br />SR Investigation Reports for: <br />Alex Dr., Calvert Ct., Parker's Path, <br />Settlers' Trace, East Thomasview Dr., <br />West Thomasview Dr., Crabtree .Creek Rd. <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Karen Lincoln, 245-2594 <br />Craig Benedict, 245-2592 <br />PURPOSE: To make a recommendation to the North Carolina Department of Transportation <br />(NCDOT) concerning a petition to add roads within the Charles' Woods Subdivision to the State <br />Maintained Secondary Road System. <br />BACKGROUND: Charles Woods Subdivision was approved by the Board of County <br />Commissioners through the major subdivision process. The roads within Charles' Woods <br />were originally platted and approved as public roads. Property owners within this subdivision, <br />specifically those living on Alex Drive (15 homes), Calvert Court (7 homes), Parker's Path (4 homes), <br />Settlers Trace (5 homes), East Thomasview Drive (4 homes), West Thomasview Drive (4 homes), <br />and Crabtree Creek Road (7 homes), have petitioned the North Carolina Department of <br />Transportation (NCDOT) to accept maintenance responsibilities for those roads. The roads are <br />located in Charles' Woods Subdivision off the south side of St. Mary's Road, Eno Township. The <br />Planning Board approved the concept plan for Charles' Woods, to be developed in four (4) phases, in <br />May 1995. The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved Phase 1 of Charles' Woods in <br />September 1995, Phase 2 in March 1996 and Phases 3 and 4 in June 1998. All phases were <br />approved with streets dedicated to the general public and constructed to standards of the North <br />Carolina Department of Transportation. <br />NCDOT has investigated these requests (please refer to attached Secondary Road Addition <br />Reports), and has submitted the petitions to the Board of Commissioners for its review and <br />recommendation. In accordance with North Carolina General Statute §136-62*, the Board is required <br />* North Carolina General Statute §136-62 directs that"The citizens of the State shall have the right to present petitions to <br />the board of county commissioners, and through the board to the Department of Transportation, concerning additions to <br />the system and improvement of roads. The board of county commissioners shall receive such petitions, forwarding them <br />on to the Board of Transportation with their recommendations." <br />
