Commissioner Burroughs said she had no comments. <br /> Commissioner Rich said she was able to help resolve an incident, assisting someone <br /> with a bill for ambulance usage. She called the Tax Office, where Felicia Williams helped her. <br /> She said she wants the public to know that Orange County does have an assistance service to <br /> help residents with ambulance bills through the tax office. <br /> Commissioner Rich asked if there is a status update regarding an emergency shelter <br /> in Orange County. <br /> Chair McKee said a few weeks ago there were multiple rallies in Orange County, <br /> especially in Hillsborough; and he commended the many agencies that monitored these <br /> peaceful events for the safety of all. He said he wrote a letter to the editor commending the <br /> agencies and the public for expressing their constitutional rights in a peaceful manner. <br /> Chair McKee said there will be a Constitution Day event in September, and he has <br /> asked Commissioner Price to speak at this event. <br /> Commissioner Burroughs asked if there was an update about the United Way <br /> reductions. <br /> Bonnie Hammersley said this report would be given at the September 15th meeting. <br /> Commissioner Burroughs said she had heard that there was once a 2% target of <br /> County budget for non-profits, and she hoped that the County would move back towards that. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said it was 1%, and it was a standard. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said there is a memo from the Planning Department about rail <br /> crossings, and the Department of Transportation (DOT) ignored many of the staff's concerns. <br /> He requested Chair McKee to write a letter to Mike Mills, the DOT Board representative, and <br /> Chuck Edwards asking them to take the County's concerns under consideration. <br /> Chair McKee said he would work on this, and aim to get a letter out in the next few <br /> days. <br /> Commissioner Price said she met with the Housing Director, and would like for the <br /> Board to look at the County's emergency repair program. <br /> 13.
