DENR Project No, 15-0597 <br /> Biologists with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission have revioved the subject <br /> dMnnent and we are familiar with the habitat values of the area. Our comments are provided in <br /> accordance with provisions of the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act(48 Stat.=401., as amended; 10 <br /> U.S.C. 661-667e)and North Carolina General Statutes(G.S. 113-131 et seq.). <br /> Waldorf Educational Association of'North Carolina, Inc. is request-Mg to amend their Current <br /> Special Use Po-mit to modify and expand the Emerson Waldorf School. The proposed master plan <br /> includes construction of buildings and boil-di-rig additions, and improvements to internal roadways, surface <br /> parking, pedestrian areas. potable water and septic systems, and stormwater infrastructure, The prirpose <br /> of file project is to support an increase in students and staff. <br /> All Unnamed tributary to Old Cield Creek in the Gape fear River basin flows through thca sotithern <br /> portion of the site. It appears the northern portion of the site drains to New Hope Creek. There are <br /> records For the federal species of concern and star:endangered Carolina creckshell (Villasa <br /> vzauglacraaian a), brook floater(Alasmidonto varicosa),and Atlantic pigtoe(Frasconuia mason ),the state <br /> special concern notched rainbow(Villosa c©nsiricta), and the state significantly rare Eastern creekshell. <br /> (Villosa delumbis)and Lompsilis sp. in New Hope Creek. In addition, there are records for the state <br /> special concern four-toed salamander(Ilemiclac°lyliwn scufal m) near the site, The Natural.Heritage <br /> Natural Arca-CPF/New Hope Creel:Aquatic Habitat-- is located along the section of`New Hope Crock <br /> downstream of the site. <br /> The E.J.S. Fish a nd Wildlife Service recently listed the Northern lortg-eared Fiat.(jItvratis <br /> septenlrion alis) as threatened under the F ndanoered Species Act, The North.cm long-eared bat may be <br /> present within or in the vicinity of the.projeet site. Therefore,the project may impact this species and <br /> consultation with the J.S. Fish and Wildlife Service may he required.
