2 <br /> RES-2015-049 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING EVELYN LLOYD FOR HER <br /> SERVICE ON THE HISTORIC HILLSBOROUGH COMMISSION <br /> WHEREAS, the Historic Hillsborough Commission was created by an Act of the North Carolina General <br /> Assembly in 1963; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Historic Hillsborough Commission was created to serve in cooperation with the Hillsborough <br /> Historical Society, the elected officials of Hillsborough and Orange County, and appropriate <br /> public agencies; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Historic Hillsborough Commission has the power to preserve and restore the Town of <br /> Hillsborough, and its immediately adjacent area, as a living, functioning, educational, and <br /> historical exhibit of North Carolina's early life and times; to acquire and to dispose of property, <br /> real and personal; to repair, restore, or otherwise improve such properties; and to write, compile, <br /> publish, or sponsor historical works as may pertain to the town and area; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Historic Hillsborough Commission shall consist of not fewer than 25 members appointed by <br /> the Governor and, in ex officio capacity, the Mayor of the Town of Hillsborough, the Chair of the <br /> Board of Commissioners of Orange County, the Orange County Register of Deeds, the Orange <br /> County Clerk of Superior Court, and the Secretary of Cultural Resources or designee; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Historic Hillsborough Commission owns and operates the Burwell School Historic Site, <br /> sharing this significant historic resource with the greater Orange County community and beyond; <br /> and, <br /> WHEREAS, Evelyn Pauline Lloyd was appointed by the Governor of the State of North Carolina and was <br /> inducted into the Historic Hillsborough Commission on September 4, 1974; and, <br /> WHEREAS, she has served continuously for 41 years on the Historic Hillsborough Commission, longer than <br /> any other member of the Commission; and, <br /> WHEREAS,her term of office on the Historic Hillsborough Commission will conclude in October 2015; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Evelyn Pauline Lloyd has been a lifelong resident of Hillsborough, and she and her family have a <br /> long record of service to the Town where she has served with distinction and dedication despite <br /> the burdens on running a service-oriented small business and has also served for 24 years as a <br /> Town of Hillsborough Commissioner; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners does hereby recognize <br /> Evelyn Pauline Lloyd for her service and commitment to the preservation of local history in the <br /> seat of Orange County and does hereby wish her well in the future endeavors she undertakes with <br /> her customary determination, thoroughness and warmth. <br /> This the sixth day of October, 2015. <br /> Earl McKee, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
