One body I currently sit on, the Human Relations Commission, is tasked with
hearing housing discrimination cases in a quasi-judicial manner and must adhere to federal
legislation and housing policy in determining if discrimination took place and help address the
complaint. My view is that the Board of Adjustment is no different in meeting the needs of
residents and property owners as well as the needs of Orange County and the general public as
it relates to zoning and regulations.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
I have previously applied for the Orange County Planning Board and find issues relating to
zoning and planning to be incredibly important, especially with new construction and economic
development. I see the Board of Adjustment as a way to ensure that property owners are fairly
treated in balancing community needs. Those who have a vested interest in planning and zone
must be confident that this board has members who are fair and impartial.
Conflict of Interest:
Supplemental Questions:
Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees
What improvements do you believe can be made so that DTCC better serves the
residents of Orange County?
DTCC could serve the residents of Orange County better by working closely with both of our
county s school districts so that students are made aware and take advantage of classes they
can take to complete their high school diploma, earn college credit, and reduce the amount they
would pay towards a four year college degree. DTCC should play a more active role in making
our students college, career, and citizenship ready.
Orange County Planning Board (REQUIRES DISCLOSURE STATEMENT)
Please list the work/volunteer experience/qualifications that would add to your expertise
for this board.
In the roles I ve served in in the community, I ve had to interact with a great deal of people from
a variety of paths in life. That gave me a sense of what the people of Orange County want and
what they need. What they need is development that is thoughtful, that will bring in tax revenue,
and increases our quality of life.
What unique perspective can you bring to the Orange County Planning Board?
As a young person living in the county, who is also a lifelong resident, I think I bring in a unique
view to the Board. I m someone that knows what Orange County was like not that long ago and
what development should look like as a young person who wants to stay local.
What do you see as the responsibilities of this board, and what do you hope to
accomplish if appointed?
I believe this Board should represent the needs and interests of both Orange County
government and the citizens of our community. Their mission should be to seek middle ground
between these two groups and work with developers to implement commonsense regulations on
development, especially if there could be a negative environmental or economic impact.
What do you consider to be be the most important issues facing Orange County related
to growth?
