Shelter Operations Manager, Animal Services 4 <br />Page <br />JOB TITLE: Shelter Operations Manager AS/3 <br />DEPARTMENT: Animal Services, Orange County <br />JOB SL~v]:MARY: This position is responsible for overseeing the health care and general <br />conditions of all shelter animals, including cleaning, feeding and medications. <br />MAJOR DUTIES: <br />o Oversees the daily operation of the County's animal shelter, including making <br />work and schedule assignments to Care Technicians and Health Technicians and <br />associated volunteers and community workers, assuring shelter operations meet <br />County and state standards <br />o Develops work plans for staff and evaluates performance; participates in hiring <br />and any needed discipline activities. <br />o Develops and implements recommended policies and procedures in areas of <br />animal husbandry practices, medical program, behavior program, adoption <br />program and shelter operations, and ensures adopted policies and procedures are <br />adhered to in the workplace. <br />o Assures cleanliness and safety of building and animal areas. <br />o Fills in for the Shelter Director when needed; assists with work of volunteer <br />services and with public and community contact. <br />o Oversees health examinations, spay/neuter program and emergencies. <br />o Oversees adoption programs including adoption counseling and training; contacts <br />animal placement and community groups as needed.. <br />o Investigates complaints as needed. <br />o Assists in preparation and monitoring of division budget. <br />o Serves in an on-call responsibility for response to animal emergencies after hours. <br />o Coordinates and participates in the euthanasia program; oversees the ordering of <br />supplies and the security of controlled substances; records and secures all <br />controlled substances <br />o Ensures that kennel and cattery policies and procedures and disease management <br />protocols are followed. <br />
