Approval of Orange County's School Construction Standards This item was removed and placed at the end of the consent agenda for separate consideration. ~ Installation Services Contract at 9-1-1 Center Using 2005 LETPP Funding The Board will approve a contract with Wireless Communications for installation services in the amount of $52,733.51 and authorized the Manager to sign. VOTE ON CONSENT AGENDA: UNANIMOUS ITEMS REMOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA: gg Applications for Property Tax Exemption The Board considered six untimely applications for exemption/exclusion from ad valorem taxation for the 2007 tax year. Commissioner Jacobs asked staff to track with citizens if the tax inserts were effective with the Homestead exemption. Jo Roberson said that there has been a big drive to make seniors aware of the Homestead exemption tax over the last few years. She said that the applications may not be from tax inserts entirely, but from questions being asked when taxpayers call or when taxpayers have issues with payment. There is an influx of calls about Homestead exemption after tax bills go out. Commissioner Jacobs said to track this and Jo Roberson said that she would ask staff to inquire of callers how they heard about the Homestead exemption. A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Nelson to approve six untimely applications for exemption/exclusion from ad valorem taxation for the 2007 tax year. VOTE: UNANIMOUS ,~'~ r. Commission for Women (CFW) Bylaws Amendment The Board considered reviewing and amending the Commission for Women's Bylaws to include a mission statement, delegation of hiring and supervisory duties, and other minor changes for the purpose of clarification. Laura Blackmon introduced Shoshanna Smith, new Director of the Office of Human Rights and Relations. Commissioner Gordon said that she spoke with Geof Gledhill before the meeting to clarify something on page 6, article 6, section 3, Absentee Votes; also on page 8, article 9, section 6. She asked if this was a common practice and Geof Gledhill had suggested that this be sent back to the County Attorney for clarification. Commissioner Gordon said that she was not familiar with this procedure of voting by proxy of boards and commissions and neither was Geof Gledhill.
