A motion was made by Commissioner Dorosin, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br /> appoint Rena Mehta to position #5 —At-Large —Citizen-Commissioner with a term ending <br /> 6/30/18. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> f. Chapel Hill Planning Commission —Appointment <br /> The Board considered making an appointment to the Chapel Hill Planning Commission. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Rich, seconded by Commissioner Price to <br /> appoint the following to the Chapel Hill Planning Commission: <br /> • Appointment of Deborah Harris to a first full term (Position #1) "Chapel Hill ETX <br /> representative with a term expiring 06/30/2018. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> g. Durham Technical College Board of Directors —Appointment <br /> The Board considered making an appointment to the Durham Technical Community <br /> College Board of Directors. <br /> Commissioner Rich said there has been some talk about the position currently held by <br /> Aaron Nelson, whose term has expired. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Rich, seconded by Commissioner Pelissier to <br /> defer this appointment until September allowing Durham Technical College time to provide <br /> input regarding this position. <br /> Commissioner Price said the Durham Tech Board of Trustees allows the counties to fill <br /> their own positions. She said she believed that Mr. Nelson was unaware that his term had <br /> expired. She said she is willing to defer this appointment but it is not up to Durham Tech to <br /> decide but rather the Board of County Commissioners should to determine what it seeks from <br /> the Durham Tech Board of Trustees. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said he finds it acceptable if the Board is deferring this <br /> appointment until September for clarity and to advertise but also stated that it is up to the <br /> Board of County Commissioners to make the decision, not the Durham Tech Board of <br /> Trustees. <br /> Commissioner Dorosin wanted to know if the current list of applicants would still be able <br /> to be considered. He also asked if there are any reservations regarding the people who have <br /> already applied. <br /> The Clerk said yes, the people on the list are still able to be considered. <br /> Commissioner Rich said her conversation with Aaron Nelson stressed the need to <br /> nominate a person who is a strong advocate for Orange County's economic development. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier said the Board should have some idea of who it wants to see <br /> on this board and what kind of interests it wants to pursue before making this appointment. <br /> Commissioner Price said if this appointment is delayed she wanted to be a part of the <br /> discussion going forward since she is the BOCC representative on the Durham Tech Board. <br /> She said Durham Tech has been working on a strategic plan and several of these applicants <br /> fill the requirements of an appointment. She said Mr. Nelson was an asset during these <br />
