A motion was made by Commissioner Dorosin, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to appoint Rena Mehta to position #5 —At-Large —Citizen-Commissioner with a term ending 6/30/18. VOTE: UNANIMOUS f. Chapel Hill Planning Commission —Appointment The Board considered making an appointment to the Chapel Hill Planning Commission. A motion was made by Commissioner Rich, seconded by Commissioner Price to appoint the following to the Chapel Hill Planning Commission: • Appointment of Deborah Harris to a first full term (Position #1) "Chapel Hill ETX representative with a term expiring 06/30/2018. VOTE: UNANIMOUS g. Durham Technical College Board of Directors —Appointment The Board considered making an appointment to the Durham Technical Community College Board of Directors. Commissioner Rich said there has been some talk about the position currently held by Aaron Nelson, whose term has expired. A motion was made by Commissioner Rich, seconded by Commissioner Pelissier to defer this appointment until September allowing Durham Technical College time to provide input regarding this position. Commissioner Price said the Durham Tech Board of Trustees allows the counties to fill their own positions. She said she believed that Mr. Nelson was unaware that his term had expired. She said she is willing to defer this appointment but it is not up to Durham Tech to decide but rather the Board of County Commissioners should to determine what it seeks from the Durham Tech Board of Trustees. Commissioner Jacobs said he finds it acceptable if the Board is deferring this appointment until September for clarity and to advertise but also stated that it is up to the Board of County Commissioners to make the decision, not the Durham Tech Board of Trustees. Commissioner Dorosin wanted to know if the current list of applicants would still be able to be considered. He also asked if there are any reservations regarding the people who have already applied. The Clerk said yes, the people on the list are still able to be considered. Commissioner Rich said her conversation with Aaron Nelson stressed the need to nominate a person who is a strong advocate for Orange County's economic development. Commissioner Pelissier said the Board should have some idea of who it wants to see on this board and what kind of interests it wants to pursue before making this appointment. Commissioner Price said if this appointment is delayed she wanted to be a part of the discussion going forward since she is the BOCC representative on the Durham Tech Board. She said Durham Tech has been working on a strategic plan and several of these applicants fill the requirements of an appointment. She said Mr. Nelson was an asset during these
