Orange County NC Website
The only non-technical issue of note is that the consensus of the DCHOWG was to
change the name of this site from the "Hollow Rock Access Area", a placeholder name from
the 1992 New Hope Creek Master Plan, to the "Hollow Rock Nature Park". The initial draft
agreement that the Board received on March 3 suggested the name change to "Hollow Rock
Park and Natural Area," but many reviewers of the document commented that name was too
long and cumbersome.
The revised interlocal agreement is ready to be reconsidered by the Board. The
agreement was approved by the Town of Chapel Hill on May 27 and is scheduled to be
considered for approval by Durham County on June 8.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the draft interlocal
agreement; however, the agreement does specify options for how the local governments
would share in the costs of future improvements to the site, as well as for the operation and
maintenance of the site. Decisions for actual costs associated with the construction, operation
and maintenance of the Hollow Rock Nature Park will be made in separate actions by the
Board.
David Stancil made the following Power Point presentation:
Hollow Rock Nature Park
New Hope Preserve
June 2, 2015
Hollow Rock Access Overview (map)
Hollow Rock Access Area
New Hope Preserve
• 75 Acres
• Erwin & Pickett roads
• Orange/Durham Counties
Hollow Rock Nature Park Ownership (map)
Hollow Rock Access Area
New Hope Preserve
• 2006 Interlocal Agreement (4 jurisdictions)
• Master Plan Advisory Committee
0 12 meetings (2007 —2009)
o Public Outreach and Input
o Findings and Recommendations
Rich Shaw continued the presentation:
• Master Plan adopted 2009-10 (4 jurisdictions)
Proposed Master Plan (map)
Hollow Rock Access Area
New Hope Preserve
