3 <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and funding necessary <br /> for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care for themselves and their <br /> dependents <br /> • Pretrial and Drug Court programming allows participants to maintain <br /> employment and reduce recidivism. It also connects individuals who are not <br /> currently employed to employment resources. <br /> • GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY <br /> The reduction of risks from vehicle/traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, gang <br /> activity, substance abuse and domestic violence. <br /> • Pretrial and Drug court services physically monitor offenders to promote public <br /> safety, and they ensure compliance with recommended treatment to address <br /> the underlying causes of criminal activity and prevent it from happening in the <br /> future. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board accept the <br /> recommendations contained in the Memorandum Regarding Organizational Placement of Jail <br /> Alternative Programs and authorize staff to implement the recommendations. <br />
