1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: September 1, 2015 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 6-i <br /> SUBJECT: Marketing Communications Management Agreement Renewal with Clean <br /> Design <br /> DEPARTMENT: Community Relations/Visitors PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> Bureau <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): <br /> 2015-16 Renewal Agreement Between INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> the Chapel Hill/Orange County Laurie Paolicelli 919-245-4322 <br /> Visitors Bureau and Marketing <br /> Agency, Clean Design <br /> PURPOSE: To approve a professional services agreement for tourism marketing and <br /> advertising with Clean Design. <br /> BACKGROUND: At the January 24, 2012 regular meeting, the Board of Commissioners <br /> approved the original $300,000 contract between Clean Design and the Chapel Hill/Orange <br /> County Visitors Bureau. The contract was renewed in 2014 for $450,000 which included new <br /> tourism initiatives focusing on agri-tourism, marriage equality and increased conference <br /> business. As it ended its fiscal year, the results of these programs are encouraging with tourism <br /> up nearly 8% across all key metrics. <br /> The proposed current agreement is a renewal for 12 months and is in accordance with the <br /> Bureau's board of directors' approval of the scope of services that was presented by Clean <br /> Design at the Bureau's May 20, 2015 board meeting. The advertising scope includes creative <br /> development, on-line marketing and the use of paid advertising in newspaper, magazine and <br /> on-line sources. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: A total of $300,000 in Visitors Bureau funds has been budgeted for the <br /> 2015-2016 Fiscal Year. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are applicable <br /> to this agenda item: <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and funding necessary <br /> for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care for themselves and their <br /> dependents. <br />
