1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: September 1, 2015 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 6-h <br /> SUBJECT: Performance Agreement Between the Town of Chapel Hill and Visitors Bureau <br /> DEPARTMENT: Community Relations/Visitors PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> Bureau <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> 2015-16 Performance Agreement Laurie Paolicelli, 919-245-4322 <br /> Between the Town of Chapel Hill and <br /> the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors <br /> Bureau for Annual Funding <br /> PURPOSE: To approve and authorize the Manager to sign the 2015-2016 performance <br /> agreement between the Town of Chapel Hill and the Visitors Bureau. <br /> BACKGROUND: Pursuant to the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau's annual <br /> performance agreement with the Town of Chapel Hill for tourism promotion, $175,000 is <br /> allocated to the Visitors Bureau annually. In addition, the Town will pay 50% of any additional <br /> revenues collected in the event the hotel/motel occupancy receipts exceed the Town's budgeted <br /> amount of$985,000. <br /> In the first year of this agreement, FY 2012-2013, occupancy receipts exceeded the Town's <br /> budget by $26,000, whereby the Town gave an additional $13,000 to the Bureau. For Fiscal <br /> Year 2013-14, receipts exceeded the Town's budget by approximately $87,500 and the Town <br /> gave the Bureau an additional $43,750. The Bureau expects to exceed the Towns budgeted <br /> $985,000 in FY 2014-15 by approximately $100,000, resulting in an additional $50,000 in <br /> funding to the Visitors Bureau. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Town of Chapel Hill will provide $175,000 to the Chapel Hill/Orange <br /> County Visitors Bureau, plus 50% of any additional revenues collected in the event the <br /> hotel/motel occupancy receipts exceed the Town's budgeted amount of$985,000. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are applicable <br /> to this agenda item: <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and funding necessary <br /> for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care for themselves and their <br /> dependents. <br />
