32 <br /> 1 — HVAC controls optimization <br /> 2 — Telework policy <br /> 3 — Energy storage assessment <br /> 4 — Event waste reduction guide <br /> 5 — Computer reuse partnership <br /> 6 — GPS vehicle efficiency monitoring <br /> 7 — Propane vehicle conversions <br /> 8 — Vehicle pooling <br /> 9 <br /> 10 Commissioner Rich asked Jim Northup if there is a numeric goal for the amount of <br /> 11 reduction in paper use. <br /> 12 Jim Northup said one way to know that paper has been reduced is when floor space can <br /> 13 be reclaimed in departments. <br /> 14 Commissioner Rich said she is glad that Orange County is gathering food waste and <br /> 15 encouraged the further investigation into offering residential composting. <br /> 16 Commissioner Pelissier asked if there are any policies regarding the use of pesticides in <br /> 17 the County's cleaning supplies. <br /> 18 Brennan Bouma said he is working with colleagues and contractors to determine all the <br /> 19 active ingredients currently used and will report back to the Board of County Commissioners. <br /> 20 Commissioner Price asked if it is possible to determine how much of the collected <br /> 21 recycling is actually recyclable. <br /> 22 Blair Pollock said historically the MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) reports residue rates <br /> 23 of about 5 percent but with single stream recycling the residue amount has gone up to 10 <br /> 24 percent. <br /> 25 Commissioner Jacobs said one of the reasons he brought up the pesticides issue a <br /> 26 couple of weeks ago is in relation to the declining numbers of monarch butterflies and bees. He <br /> 27 asked staff to look at planting flowers instead of hay in some of the newer parks in order to <br /> 28 bring back the bees. He also suggested putting grazing animals on these sites instead of <br /> 29 diesel tractors. <br /> 30 David Stancil said these ideas are currently being worked on at Blackwood Park and <br /> 31 Northeast Park Site. <br /> 32 Commissioner Rich referred to the Space Study Work Group and its research into <br /> 33 telecommuting. She asked if there is a specific purpose to this research. <br /> 34 Brennan Bouma said telework is popular, especially in the private sector, as there is less <br /> 35 space needed leading to more flexibility in work spaces. He said it is being researched as a <br /> 36 possible option within Orange County. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 9. County Manager's Report <br /> 39 Bonnie Hammersley thanked the Board of County Commissioners for all of the work it <br /> 40 did on the budget and its dedication and commitment to Orange County, the residents, <br /> 41 employees and schools.
