13 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 Best wishes, <br /> 3 Emory Doubman <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Dear Chair McKee, Vice Chair Pelissier and Commissioners, <br /> 6 <br /> 7 1 am unable to attend either of the Public Hearings in May so please consider this email <br /> 8 as my "3 minutes" at the podium. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 1 strongly urge you to consider increased funding and continued financial support of the <br /> 11 Exchange Club Family Center in Alamance. They are highly successful in the <br /> 12 prevention of child abuse in at-risk families. I know, because I am one of their <br /> 13 successes. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 In 2009, we had just adopted a baby girl from China when I started having panic attacks, <br /> 16 flashbacks to my childhood and was sleep deprived. Due to the presence of several risk <br /> 17 factors for child abuse I was almost a statistic and so was my daughter. I was <br /> 18 misdiagnosed by a therapist and told to go back to work because I could not"cut it" as a <br /> 19 stay at home mom. I was devastated and sick. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 After many calls and searching the internet I found the Exchange Club Family in <br /> 22 Alamance via the Orange County Exchange Club website. I called and spoke with <br /> 23 Sarah Black, County Director and it was the beginning of a new life for me and my <br /> 24 family. I attended the free parenting classes and had a "nanny" make home visits to <br /> 25 observe me and my daughter interact and offer support for my newfound parenting <br /> 26 skills. I not only learned excellent parenting skills I also gained insight into what was <br /> 27 happening to me emotionally and physically. A profound healing had begun. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Today, my daughter is a happy, healthy 7 year old and I am a happy, healthy wife and <br /> 30 mother. I now serve on the advisory board for the Exchange Club Family Center in <br /> 31 Alamance because I felt compelled to give back to the organization who had given me <br /> 32 my life back and protected my daughter from harm before it happened. I am deeply <br /> 33 grateful and indebted to this organization. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Thank you for your kind consideration.
