Y 4 <br /> F Agenda Item 7: Non-Conforming Uses <br /> Mr, Joe Kott, member of the Orange County planning staff, <br /> reviewed the current ordinance dealing with non-conforming uses and <br /> told the audience about other methods dealing with non-conforming uses <br /> as suggested by the Institute of Government. <br /> Mr. Robert Nichols asked what was non-conforming under the present <br /> ordinance and asked what would happen if 60% of a non-confo:ming <br /> residence burned down and whether it could be rebuilt. He said <br /> he was opposed to the ordinance not allowing a owner to rebLild a home <br /> in which he owned 40% interest if the home existed before the ordinance. <br /> Mr. Ben Lloyd questioned the constitutionality of this issue: <br /> Mr. Mike Woods asked whether his office could be rebuilt if it were <br /> non-conforming and burned down. <br /> Mr. Stuart Barbour also questioned a non-conforming use building <br /> burning down. <br /> Commissioner Willhoit asked whether it would be possible to exclude <br /> residents from non-conforming use provisions. <br /> Mr. Charles Stevens said he was interested in seeing zoning <br /> extended into Hillsborough Township. He said he did not want to wait <br /> a year. <br /> Mr. Robert Earl said he had some information to take back to <br /> the township advisory councils. He said he liked this method. He said <br /> he did not want to jump ahead of the proposed planning schedule. <br /> Agenda Item 12: Hillsborough's proposed Zoning flap <br /> Mr. Joe Kott reviewed a zoning map presently under consideration <br /> by the Town of Hillsborough. <br /> Mr. B. B. Olive announced a meeting with representatives of <br /> the Department of Transportation set for Tuesday, August 28th, at 7:30 p.m., <br /> in the Orange County Courthouse concerning expansion of Interstate 85. <br /> i Dr. Bonar then turned the meeting over to Chairman Whitted. <br /> Chairman Whitted announced the conclusion of a public hearing on land use <br /> matters and announced a meeting with the Department of Transportation <br /> would concern a proposal to 6-lane Interstate 85 from the Alamance County <br /> line to Efland. <br />
