Routine <br /> innoculations of all animals is not economically justified, thus, <br /> strict shelter sanitation procedures will be employed to minimize <br /> the transmission of infectious agents. <br /> 1.11 Animals are to be placed in runs such that typically no more than <br /> 2 (usually one, but no more than 2) compatible animals are in <br /> pen/cages together (a mother and her litter may be placed together <br /> if conditions warrant) largest animals typically in the exterior <br /> runs, smaller dogs in interior runs, cats, puppies, kittens in the <br /> small animal room. Rodents and other animals wherever most con- <br /> venient and safe. All general cleaning, disinfection and feeding <br /> to be done in accordance with the recommendations of HSUS, ARA <br /> and other existing shelters such as Arlington, Va. Such procedures <br /> require general cleaning and feeding (adult animals twice daily, <br /> puppies and kittens three times a day) and high pressure disinfection <br /> 2--3 times a week. A daily and weekly routine shall be adhered to by <br /> the shelter staff. <br /> 1.12 Animals to be terminated due to time stay are to be euthanized in <br /> their boarding pen whenever possible or in the euthanasia room when <br /> necessary by the shelter manager or other qualified person designated <br /> by the shelter manager in accordance with shelter euthanasia policy. <br /> Any cage or pen shall be thoroughly disinfected after usage by <br /> animal regardless of the disposition. All dead bodies are to be <br /> refrigerated until their removal from the shelter. <br />
