815 2. Board of Commissioners
We have been trained to mediate family disputes, property
damages, trespassing, disorderly conduct, wife abuse, various
kinds of neighborhood disputes. We have received some cases
from the campus legal services and some from the magistrate's
Office. via are working through the District Attorney's office
but we are willing to take cases from the street. We do not
wish to be a ruing of the court. We are made up of volunteers
only and our effort i`s toward mediation and conciliation — not
arbitration as was considered in the beginning. ''e shall leave
all arbitration to the courts. Both the one who brings charges
and the defendant must agree to go through mediation in order
to have the case heard. If the case is not resolved, the parties
will be told they may file a complaint through the court system.
It has been proposed that this pilot program of the state
will request funding from private foundations and businesses.
In order to make our request for funding we are asking that the
governing bodies of Orange County sponsor us by allowing their
names to be on the stationery of the Dispute Settlement Center
as sponsors. We shall ask for sponsorship of the Bar Association,
the Interchurch Council, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and
such widely known organizations. Our first request is to the
Board of Commissioners of Orange County.
Signedt
Charlotte G.
