AGENDA ATTACHMENT 11 <br /> Proposal : for the position of Nome/School Counselor f ' <br /> The schools have had to deal with a growing number of disciplinary <br /> cases between the ages of lit and 17 years old. As such pilot attempts are <br /> being undertaken to help cope with these "youth at risk. " This proposal <br /> is for a part-time home/school counselor who would work with three of these <br /> efforts, including an in-school suspension program, volunteer tutoring, and <br /> a residential therapeutic camp. <br /> Responsibilities for the home/school counselor are as follows below: <br /> In--school sus ension ro ram - the counselor will be a liaison from the <br /> system to the families of children given in--school suspensions. A positive <br /> interaction between school and family will be developed to assist child, <br /> teacher and family in dealing with serious conduct problems. Efforts will <br /> include joint counseling and problem-solving sessions, parent workshops, <br /> referral , outreach contact, follow-up, and advocacy; <br /> Volunteer tutoring ro ram , the counselor will recruit and train volunteers <br /> to provide tutoring in specific subject areas to students assigned to an <br /> in-school suspension, as appropriate and necessary; <br /> Residential them eutic cam - our system and four others are providing a <br /> special camp for 8 boys who cannot be retained effectively and appropriately <br /> within the schools. 3 to 4 students from Orange County will be in residence. <br /> The counselor will provide liaison between the boys ' families and the camp, <br /> as well as to the school . This liaison will include intake processing duties, <br /> family and community outreach contacts, parent workshops, referral , transi.- <br /> tional counseling, and follow-up. <br /> The responsibilities of the Home/School Counselor are closely related <br /> within the three areas, and some overlap is expected. This will be necessary <br /> since, the position is for three days a week. An experienced person is highly <br /> desirable; preferrably an MSW or MA-Counseling. The salary is approximately <br /> $7,500 year plus benefits. <br />
