C. 27278 <br /> Dear Mr. attis : <br /> We have t day mailed a check for $4, 818.95 covering the <br /> balance i � full for 1977 taxes for E & E Developers of <br /> Chape 1 Hill. <br /> In a convTrsation with Mrs. Dickson today, she indicated <br /> the balance shoyld be $4,918.95, or a difference of $100. <br /> This diff rence of $100 she explained arose from the <br /> fact thati our December 29, 1977 check for $5,000 partial <br /> payment o the taxes was not credited on your books until. <br /> January 1 1978. <br /> Our records show that this check was mailed on December <br /> 29, 1977 , on a Thursday, in order for it to reach your <br /> office on Friday and before the end of the year, to avoid <br /> the 2% pe alty. <br /> The time <br /> tf mailing is distinctly recalled by my secretary, <br /> because o the importance of getting it in the mail before <br /> 11 the end of the year. <br /> We do not feel that if the mail were delayed because of <br /> the end o� the year, holidays, etc. , that this extra <br /> penalty s, ould be charged us .
