The General Assistance program is funded <br /> on a twelve months basis by County Comni.ssi.aners. This project will provide <br /> emergency a.ssistan e to approximately 500 families and individuals needing <br /> assistance with fo d, clothing, medical care, emergency transportation, fuel, <br /> shelter, utilities and emergency shelter needs during the 1977-197$ fiscal. <br /> year. These .needs often arise unexpectedly as the economic, domestic, and <br /> social status of the target population change due to such factors as Loss <br /> of jobs, loss of h8mes or shelter, marital problems, medical Problems, or <br /> nutritional probl.e�s. <br /> in order to meet t ese needs of the county residents, and to improve the <br /> economic, domestic and social_ conditions of Orange County as a whole, the <br /> Orange County Depaztment of Social. Services is xequ.esti.ng that two new employ- <br /> ees be hared to acbLinister this program. The two employees in these new <br /> Positions would su p1ement the small general assistance proms which cu:-reat-- <br /> ly exists and allo for expansion from approximately 100 to 500 persons who <br /> will receive this mergency assistance. <br /> Grange County Depaatment of Soci.anl. Services currently employs an equivalent <br /> of 91.5 full—time mnl.oyees, all of whom are partially federally funded.. <br /> This agency is a public agency which is an integral, paxt of the Social. Services <br /> Division of the North Carolina Lepaxtment of Human Resources. <br /> This. project perso el will interview and determine eligibility of applicants <br /> for emergency assis{tan.ce, and provide assistance to those who are found eligi- <br /> ble. Ability to ther data concerning family, health, and finances, and to <br /> read and comprehert d roles and regulations pertaining to this program will be <br /> neceasary.
