A meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Orange <br /> County, North Carolina, was held at Hillsborough, North Carolina <br /> the regular place of meeting at 10 =00 o' clock d .m. , on <br /> Octobe 3, 19 77. <br /> Present: Commissioners Rich ard_ighItted_, _ <br /> Gusta eson, Jan Pinney, Norman Walker and Donald Willhoit <br /> Absent- None <br /> The following resolution was read to the Board : <br /> WHEREAS the Board of Transportation of the State of <br /> North Carolina has approved a route known as Alternate I--B for <br /> the e tension of Interstate 40 from I-85 west of Durham to the <br /> Research Triangle Park, which route, if followed, would result <br /> in th construction of a major new highway through Orange County <br /> and.: <br /> WHEREAS the Board of Commissioners of Orange County <br /> oppose the extension of Interstate 40 along Alternate Route 1--B <br /> and tie construction of a major new highway through Orange Count <br /> becau e, based on the infromation available to date, the Beard <br /> is of the opinion that the construction of a major new highway <br /> through Orange County is not in the best interest of the citizen <br /> of Orange County and the citizens of the State of North Carolina <br /> IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED THAT the Orange County Attorney <br /> is authorized to take whatever steps necessary, including <br /> appropriate court action in opposition to the decision of the <br /> Board of Transportation of the State of North Carolina approvinc <br /> Alter ate 1-H or any future decision of the Board of Transport- <br /> ation. or anv other Board or Aaencv . the result-of which will br <br />
