A meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Orange County, North Carolina, was held at Hillsborough, North Carolina, the regular place of meeting at 10:00 o'clock a .m. , on October 3, F 19 77. Present: Commissioners Richard L7hi Gustaveson, Jan Pinnev, Norman Walker and Donald Willhoit Absent: None The following resolution was read to the Board: WHEREAS the Board of Transportation of the State of North Carolina has approved a route known as Alternate 1-B for the extension of Interstate 40 from I-85 west of Durham to the Research Triangle Park, which route, if followed, would result in the construction of a major new highway through Orange County and; WHEREAS the Board of Commissioners of orange County oppose the extension of Interstate 40 along Alternate Route 1-B and the construction of a major new highway through Orange County! because, based on the infromation available to date, the Board is of the opinion that the construction of a major new highway through Orange County is not in the best interest of the citizens' of orange County and the citizens of the State of North Carplina;� IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED THAT the orange County Attorney is authorized to take whatever steps necessary, including appropriate court action in opposition to the decision of the Board of Transportation of the State of North Carolina approving Alternate 1-B or any future decisiont of the Board of Transport- ation, or any other Board or Agency, the result of which will be the construction of a major new highway through Orange County.
