A meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Orange <br /> County, North Carolina, was held at Hillsborough, North Carolina, <br /> the regular place of meeting at 10:00 o'clock a .m. , on <br /> October 3, F 19 77. <br /> Present: Commissioners Richard L7hi <br /> Gustaveson, Jan Pinnev, Norman Walker and Donald Willhoit <br /> Absent: None <br /> The following resolution was read to the Board: <br /> WHEREAS the Board of Transportation of the State of <br /> North Carolina has approved a route known as Alternate 1-B for <br /> the extension of Interstate 40 from I-85 west of Durham to the <br /> Research Triangle Park, which route, if followed, would result <br /> in the construction of a major new highway through Orange County <br /> and; <br /> WHEREAS the Board of Commissioners of orange County <br /> oppose the extension of Interstate 40 along Alternate Route 1-B <br /> and the construction of a major new highway through Orange County! <br /> because, based on the infromation available to date, the Board <br /> is of the opinion that the construction of a major new highway <br /> through Orange County is not in the best interest of the citizens' <br /> of orange County and the citizens of the State of North Carplina;� <br /> IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED THAT the orange County Attorney <br /> is authorized to take whatever steps necessary, including <br /> appropriate court action in opposition to the decision of the <br /> Board of Transportation of the State of North Carolina approving <br /> Alternate 1-B or any future decisiont of the Board of Transport- <br /> ation, or any other Board or Agency, the result of which will be <br /> the construction of a major new highway through Orange County. <br /> This resolution is effective upon its passage. <br /> Thereupon Commissioner Norman Gustav s moved <br /> 'IMSTO J.
