AGENDA ATTACHMENT VIII
September 1 , 1977
OFFICE FURNITURE BIDS
Reconne d that the low bids be accepted with the following exceptions:
1) The executive desks be awarded to second low bid at $2.35 more per
desk, since he low bid did not appear to be of the same quality as the re-
commended de k. This evaluation was made from personal inspection by the
Finance Offi er and by verbal comments of a non-bidding office furniture
dealer. Thi also was true of the executive chairs but the lower quality
appears tab adequate for County needs and the price difference is $35.00
per chair.
t 2) Thai all side chairs bids be rejected since the budgeted amount is
exceeded. A different type of chair similar to the public seats in the
Commissioner Room may be purchased at a lower price at a later date.
3) That all bids for the six correcting typewriters be rejected and
that orders be placed individually according to each department's needs.
A vendor (which produces the typewriter in this class that our prospective
users. indica s most clearly Meets their needs) did not submit a timely
bid due to ca fusion in the mails caused by the Finance Department. Their
bid received late would have been the highest bid, and any rebid would still
leave them hi her. But the very strong feelings on the part of the pro-
spective users about the quality of the bid machines would suggest leaving
purchase decision to individual department heads.
4)" That the bid for the 'large electronic printing calculator be re-
jected since the only bidder to meet specifications was 59% over the budgeted
amount and leave this decision to the involved department head as to what .
modifications might be appropriate.
4
In those instances where the budgeted amount exceeds the recommended
bid, funds ara available within the total equipment budget of each depart-
ment. Since the appropriation is for the total rather than single items,
no amendments are needed. The one exception is health and a proposed
amendment is included elsewhere on the agenda.
