- l <br /> i ND i V!DUAL N{7h1-IIRBAt TEWATER TREATMENT AND MANAGEMENT ALTEPUA"IVES <br /> Benefits to Orange County for participating in the study: <br /> 1) An overview of past and present septic tank problems in the County, on'site <br /> inspection and more detailed evaluation of selected sites, an identification <br /> of projected future problem areas, and an evaluation of septage disposal <br /> practices ih the County: <br /> A state of the art assessment of alternatives to the conventional septic <br /> tank and an evaluation of the feasibility of utilizing such techniques in <br /> the .County: <br /> i?emonstration of the most feasible alt6rnatives in the County, i'n conjunction <br /> With County Sanitarians and individual homeowners or developers: North <br /> Carolina State University personnel will have primary responsibility for <br /> monitoring and performance evaluation of these systems, The most feasible <br /> techniques for rejLSVination of failed systems will be also be tested in the <br /> County in conjunction with County Sanitarians_ <br /> Workshop Number l will be held to educate concerned citizens (elected officia' <br /> other governmental personnel , septic tank industry represenatives, and the <br /> general public) on the need to control individual wastewater disposal . . 'W01°ksi <br /> Number 2 will present infoemation on the feasibility of usigg alternative <br /> systems in the Study area. ' <br /> rea General education pamphlets will. be developed <br /> to educate the public on septic tanks, including operation and maintersance <br /> requirements and the feasibility of alternative systems in the County. Polic' <br /> direction for the study will be provided by the 20$ Steering Committee <br /> with local elected official.- represented. Technical direction Will be.. <br /> provided by a technical advisory committee on which the County will be <br /> represented. : <br /> 5) An evaluation of the workability and uniform application of existing regulati <br /> including a determination of their ability to prevent future problems and, <br /> as necessary: recommendations far revisions to the -existing regulations to <br /> provide more effective control over individual wastewater disposal .and <br /> 5) fu evaluation s and e recommendationstfor establishmenttr existing <br /> of such systems <br /> future problem <br /> as necessary. <br /> 7) Workshop Number, 3 will present the study findings and recommendations to <br /> concerned citizens of the area and the final project 'report will. be presented <br /> to the County Board of Health and the County Commissioners. <br />
