Cane Creek is the only significant undeveloped reservoir site remaining In <br /> the Cape Fear region (Southern) of Orange County_ <br /> 3. Urban-type develbpment is encroaching on and threatening the vaab'3li,ty <br /> of the dairy and agricultural industry in the Cane Creek area. <br /> 4. Watershed protection criteria could be used to stabilize and preserve the <br /> dairy industry and the quality of life in the Came Creek area. <br /> 5. The trend in water quality standards is toward more stringent criteria <br /> as the more subtle effects of low level contaminants are recognized. <br /> Therefore, the orange County Board of Commissioners endorses the develrJt.- <br /> ment of the Cane Creek. Reservoir. Futhetmore, the Board ]relieves that, consistent <br /> with the EPA Standards where there is a choice, the purest -sources should be <br /> selected.
