PROGRAM PROPOSAL: � Renovate part of the Northside Multipurpose Center for Improved <br /> Senior Citizen Services <br /> " PRABLM STATEKEUT I <br /> The population ag� structure is becoming older as a result of lower 'hates, increased. <br /> life span and retirees moving into the county. More citizens are reaching "old age" ix <br /> Chapel Hilt, espe4ially in the Community Development area of concentration such as the <br /> Northside "community." Therefore, a number of senior citizens needs can be found, suci <br /> (1) a place tolgo during the day to combat boredom and loneliness <br /> (2) a method f9r improved accessibility of essential. services <br /> (3) a mechanism for elderly as a group and as individuals to deal effectively with <br /> a variety 4 their probl ms <br /> The Northside Multipurpose Center is presently in poor physical condition, Bret is attea <br /> ing to serve over '100 older persons from the surrounding community on a daily basis. <br /> Some of the services now available at the Center are nutrition, legal, assistance, <br /> employment, energ# and weatherization assistance, as well as general information. <br /> PROGRAM OBJFCTIVE� <br /> On behalf of the Polden Age Happy Circle Club, the Council on Aging, JOCCA, and other <br /> Senior Citizens in the CD area., the Orange County Board of Commissioners requests $16, <br /> Community Development funding consideration for the renovation of space in the Northsi. <br /> Multipurpose Center that would offer an improved focal point of services for older <br /> citizens of the community. Orange County would, be responsible for the renovation prof <br /> and nay wish to omtract out the work, after establishing a work plan. <br /> COST ESTIMATES <br /> The following cat estimates include material. and Labor and were developed by David <br /> Polston, architect, N.C. Division of Aging. The proposed renovation involves oonvearti <br /> the vacant space (formerly occupied by the SHAC clinic) into a large multipurpose roan <br /> a small. lounge, Ond an Arts/Crafts area. The multipurpose room would house the nutril <br /> program., .nei.ghboihood meetings and other gatherings. Assignment of space in this bui. <br /> is the responsi4li.ty of the Orange County Hoard of Commissioners. The Board agrees i <br /> this renovated area -will be made available primarily for Senior Citizens activities M <br /> services for at feast five years.
