AGENDA ITEM # 4 MEMORANDUM TO: Sam Gattis, County Manager FROM: Peggy Pollitzer, Chairperson, HSAC Ted Parrish, Chairperson, Subcommittee on Summer Education, Recreation, and Nutritional Program for School Aged Children SUBJECT: Recommendations'for 1980 Summer DATE: May 29, 1980 In the fall Human Services Advisory Commission established a subcommittee to examine the nutritional, educational, and recreational needs of school aged children in Orange County. After numerous meetings which included representatives from the two school systems, recreation departments, and the community action agency, it was concluded that greater attention needed to be focused upon coordination in the northern end of the County. Representatives of the County schools,and recreation departments, and JOCCA worked out needed expansion and better coordinated programs for the coming summer. Such programs were described to HSAC. After considerable .discussion the following recommen- dations received the unanimous support of voting members of HSAC, and we recommend them to the County Board of Commissioners for their consideration: A. That the Orange County Board of Commissioners guarantee up to $2,000 in losses to the Orange County Schools in the operation of the 1980 Stammer Natritiaa Program. B. That the Orange County Board of Commissioners provide $8,000 for scholorships for children in AFDC families, or eligibles, that attend the 1980 Summer Camp Programs operated by the Orange County Schools. The. above recommendations are needed as part of HSAC�s mission to increase cooperation and coordination among human service agencies and decrease unnecessary duplication. Supportive documentation is attached and appropriate HSAC representatives or agency personnel will be happy to attend any meetings to expand or further explain the recommendations.
