5; <br /> .j <br /> NORTH CAROLINA <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> WHEREAS_ <br /> I. The Town of Hillsborough, originally called <br /> Orange, is one of the most historic towns in the State of <br /> North Carolina, containing an Historic District and more <br /> than a dozen structures named to the National Register of <br /> Historic Buildings by the National Park Service, U.S. Depart- <br /> ment of the Interior; further, at least 116 late 18th and <br /> early 19th century structures still stand in and about <br /> Hillsborough. <br /> IS. The Town of Hillsborough was laid out and <br /> originally deeded to the ",Magistrates of the County of Orange" <br /> by William Churton in the early 1750s, and in 1759 was "con- <br /> stituted, erected and established a town and town common" by <br /> the Assembly of the Province of North Carolina in Chapter XIII <br /> of the Laws of North Carolina. <br /> ITT. The Assembly of the Province of North Carolina, <br /> in 1159, by enactment of Chapter XIII constituted directors <br /> and trustees of the Town and vested in them title to the town <br /> property, excepting therefrom any such property previously <br /> conveyed by William Churton. <br /> IV. Within the town and a part of the original "scheme" <br /> of the town is the "Church Lott," intended to be used for a <br /> church, a cemetary and a school. This lot was later and to <br /> this day known, as Lot 98 of the original town. <br /> V. The Confederate Memorial Library Building is <br /> F«. <br /> ''t <br />
