ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Dater November 5, 2007 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~- - h <br />SUBJECT: Recreation and Parks Grant Applications <br />DEPARTMENT: Recreation and Parks <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Lori Taft, 245-2660 <br />PURPOSE: To provide the opportunity for input from the Board of County Commissioners on a <br />variety of grant opportunities available to the County through the Recreation and Parks <br />Department. <br />BACKGROUND: Recreation and Parks Department staff has been researching grant <br />opportunities from a variety of sources and for a variety of purposes in recent months. Many of <br />the grants involve very small funding levels, but some are more substantial. Staff is making the <br />Board aware of the opportunities currently under consideration and is requesting direction or <br />authorization for the Department to pursue the grant opportunities listed below. <br />AT&T Foundation -Request of $5,000. Target Project: Cool Jazz Festival <br />Staff. has contacted the AT&T Foundation to request an application for an Art & <br />Culture Grant. Staff is awaiting the application which will be available in the <br />spring of 2008. <br />USTA Public Facility Funding Grant - <_$50,000.00 or 20% of project. Target Project: <br />OHS Tennis Court resurfacing. <br />Staff is preparing an application to the United States Tennis Association. The funds are <br />being requested to support the tennis court renovations at Orange High School. If <br />successful, the grant funding would be applied equally against Orange County's portion <br />of the costs for the project. <br />Be Active North Carolina, Inc. -Request of $5,000. Target Project: Mid-Day Getaway <br />(lunchtime exercise programs.) <br />
