f• <br /> 353 <br /> 2. <br /> Report on the Orange County Road blaming and House Numbering Program <br /> SECTION 3: PROCEDURE (Continued) <br /> (1) A Road Naming Advisory Committee would be appointed by the <br /> Commissioners. Membership on this Committee would be open <br /> to the public with a special effort made to recruit emergency <br /> and postal service representatives. The Committee's charge <br /> would be to propose official names for all public, state- <br /> maintained roads. <br /> (2) The Committee will research road names shown on Orange <br /> County Tax Maps and the Department of Transportation State <br /> Road List. <br /> (3) The Committee will conduct Local Information Meetings to <br /> provide citizens the opportunity to suggest road nacres <br /> and comment on names proposed by the Committee. <br /> (4) Road name petitions will be made available to property <br /> owners who would like to suggest names for the toads <br /> on which their property fronts. Petitions will be <br /> available tonight to property owners who have alternative <br /> names to suggest. <br /> (5) The Commissioners will hold several Public Hearings to <br /> review the Committee's road name proposals and for the <br /> adoption of official road names. <br /> (6) Official road names will be published on a map and will <br /> be made available to the public. <br /> (7} House numbers will be assigned by the Program Coordinator. <br /> (8) Road name signs will be installed in July and August, 1980. <br /> ALL OF THE APPROPRIATE REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN MET BY THE ROAD <br /> NAMING ADVISORY COPL%LITTEE. <br /> SECTION 4: PROGRESS REPORT <br /> The Orange County Road Naming Advisory Committee (RONAC) has presented the <br /> Board of County Commissioners recommendations conceping approximately 225 roads <br /> of which 4 were questioned and referred back to the Committee. That left 218 <br /> recommendations that still stand. <br /> RONAC has held two regular meetings (in February and March). Since the <br /> January 15, 1980 Public Hearing petitions have been received on five roads. The <br /> Committee has now prepared Road Name Recommendations for 249 roads. This represent <br /> 93% (including those recommended for .January 15, 1980) of the public, state- <br /> maintained roads estimated by the Program Coordinator to be located in Orange County. <br /> Road Name Recommendations for the remaining state roads will be made at a Public <br /> Hearing which has not been scheduled. <br /> (Continued) <br />
