t°
AGENDA ITEM rr 11
Memorandum To: Orange County Board of Commissioners
From: Sam Gattis, County Manager
Date: January 22, 1980
Subject: Public Service Employees Working
In County Departments
Presently thirteen (13) persons paid by the CETA Program are working
in County Departments. This memo contains a brief description of each
position, lists the cost necessary to retain certain of these positions
from February 15th to June 30th, and the Manager's recommendation as to
how the Board might deal with the potential staff cuts.
I recommend three positions be eliminated, a finance clerk, the road
naming coordinator and a housekeeper, and that the duties of the road naming
coordinator be assigned to another planning staff member. To fund the remaining
positions, I propose first that unexpended personnel money in the Inspections,
Public Works, Social Services and CETA budget be allocated. Then, to cover the
balance necessary, approximately $4,500 be allocated from your contingency
fund.
This proposal is basically sound; however, it is partially contingent
upon receipt of certain CETA funds anticipated but not formally allocated by
the state. If the state's allocations do not materialize, we will be forced
to make further staff reductions in the CETA office during the early summer.
i
