RECOMMENDATION TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL FEATURES
FOR THE TELEPHONE EXCHANGE SYSTEM
Discussions with various departments have identified a need for further
technical features in the new telephone exchange system that were not listed
in the orginal specifications but which are now deemed essential if the
telephone exchange system is to work effectively for all the departments.
Specifically, the feature which is required is "call forwarding" and it would
allow County personnel, when leaving their offices,to code into their
phones the number of the extension where they will be going to or the
extension of a person who would be able to take their messages while they
the person is gone.
By using this feature, the need for an additional switch board with the
accompanying equipment and personnel costs would be eliminated at the
Social Services Department since the central switchboard would send calls
directly to the staff person, who if not in the office would have his or
her phone coded so that it would ring at the receptionist's desk. The
call forwarding feature would also remove problems that occur in many of
the one-person departments who, when out of their offices often have no-
body close by to answer their phone calls. Finally this feature would work
considerably to relieve the central switchboard operator's work load
since very few calls would be returned to the switchboard when no one was
there to answer the extension that was requested.
The call forwarding feature is part of the advanced feature package which
must be purchased in its entirety. Additional features included in this
package include. "standby call queuing","repeat number dialed","private calls",
"do not disturb","executive override" and "station speedcalling". It is
recommended that the County puuchase the advanced feature pacage for the
telephone exchange system at a purchase cost of $5,168.00 or an additional
$685.64 on the semi--annual payment of $18,515.43 for a total of $19,201.07,
4'
