2
Orange County has not previously adopted the Records Retention and Disposition Schedule. If
the Board adopts the Records Retention and Disposition Schedule, staff will promulgate rules
and a plan to carry out the provision of this policy.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There will be no initial financial impact. As Staff develops rules and a
plan to make sure that records are adequately retained and disposed of on schedule, there may
be some cost to ensure that documents stored long term are. stored properly, cost associated
with recycling, and cost associated with the destruction or shredding of documents. However,
in the long term, if the County efficiently disposes of documents according to the schedule, the
cost of storage of documents should decrease.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board of Commissioners adopt
the. County Management Schedule Records Retention and Disposition Schedule, dated April 1,
2006, and any amendments thereto, and authorize the County Manager and the Chair to sign
the Agreement.
