<br /> Hobey Ford's Golden Rod Puppets — On March 11th, 2015, Hobey Ford's Golden
<br /> Rod Puppets performed two shows, one for students in grades K-2"d and one for
<br /> students in grades 3`d-5th. Mr. Ford performed "Animalia," a show that explored the
<br /> diversity of the animal kingdom. Mr. Ford's "Foamies," puppets carved from large
<br /> blocks of foam that use intricate mechanical designs and details that give each
<br /> puppet realistic movements, allowed him to break out of the traditional puppet
<br /> theater booth and turn the entire theater into a performance stage. Mr. Ford is skilled
<br /> at creating a seamless, magical and hypnotic dance between the audience, the
<br /> puppeteer, the life-like puppets, and his original artistic scenery.
<br /> During 2013-2014, the following performers visited Estes Hills Elementary School:
<br /> Project Trio presented two performances, one for the K-2nd and one for the 3`d-5th
<br /> grades. Project Trio, a passionate, high-energy chamber music ensemble from
<br /> Brooklyn, New York, brought instrumental music fused with hip-hop, rock, and pop to
<br /> our school. Project Trio took our students on a journey through multiple genres and
<br /> styles of music, including classical, jazz, rock, salsa, hip-hop, as well as their own
<br /> original music.
<br /> Felix Pitre performed twice, once for the K-2nd grade students and once for the 3`d-
<br /> 5th grade students. Mr. Pitre presented his original work, "Stories & Songs of Latin
<br /> America," during which he shared many of the Hispanic traditions that were passed
<br /> down to him from his own family, bringing to life the culture of Latin America with
<br /> puppetry, stories, songs, instruments, and dance.
<br /> Li Liu brought her show "Traditions of Chinese Acrobatics" to grades K-2"d. Ms. Liu
<br /> has dedicated her life to training and performing acrobatic skills all over the world,
<br /> starting at the young age of six. During her show, students learned the historical
<br /> significance of traditional lion and dragon dances and were encouraged to think
<br /> about what it might have been like to grow up in a different time and place.
<br /> Bright Star presented the play "Lincoln and Tubman" to students in grades 3`a -51h
<br /> In this production, Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Tubman came together to share their
<br /> roles in ending slavery in America and conveyed to the audience the importance of
<br /> education. The production delved into the childhoods of these two remarkable figures
<br /> and recreated key moments and events that shaped both of their lives.
<br /> During 2012-2013, the following performers visited Estes Hills Elementary School:
<br /> Bright Star performed for our K-2nd grade students, bringing the stories of Johnny
<br /> Appleseed, Daniel Boone, and Paul Bunyan to life by combining traditional American
<br /> Tall Tales with toe-tapping, old fashioned, southern style bluegrass music for an
<br /> upbeat production that had our students fully engaged.
<br /> Hobey Ford performed his "Migration" story twice, once for our K-2nd grades and
<br /> once for our 3`d-5th grades. In his original story, Mr. Ford told about a Mexican girl
<br /> named Beatriz ("traveler") and her family's migration from their home near Mexico
<br /> City to the United States using realistic puppets that served to bring his story to life.
<br /> Donna Washington —A vibrant, dynamic storyteller, Ms. Washington performed one
<br /> show for our 3`d-5th graders using her incredible vocal pyrotechnics, dramatic facial
<br /> expressions, and energetic physicality to make her stories come to life while at the
<br /> same time conveying life lessons through her narratives.
