Our bands, from April through
September kindly played for free.
The following year, we obtained a permit to close off Tryon Street in front of our
church for the safety and comfort of the people who came to hear the music. We also
began serving free ice cream and quickly became known as the Ice Cream Church!
In 2008 the Tourism Board granted us with $600 to pay the six groups of
musicians $100 per gig. We have received grants through 2014, with Mr. Eric Hallman
saying that we are "the best bang for the buck". Due to technical problems, the 2015
grant application wasn't made in a timely manner and HPC missed the deadline.
This is our 10th Anniversary Year and the News of Orange and other folks refer to
us as the Tryon Stage.
We are applying for funds to help us acquire musicians for April, May and June of
2016 —the church's 200th Anniversary year.
Our goal is to show hospitality to the community and we spend at least $650 per
season on ice cream! Thank you!
Proposed Project
We are in our 10th year of providing entertainment, chairs to sit, restrooms and
ice cream to folks wishing such! We have banners, coolers, tables purchased for this
purpose. With a grant of $225.00 we can continue this appreciated service.
Community Impact
We provide a safe place to sit and visit, music, free ice cream! The Public is
invited through newspaper spots and a legacy of"being there." We serve on average
400 scoops of ice cream each "Last Friday."
A Few Past Music Groups:
The Bucket Brothers
Orange and Cedar Ridge High School Bands
LA Fernandez and Company
The Decauter St. Beat
The Nash Street Band
Mandelin Orange
Cracken
The Stoney Creek Bank
A.L.
