Teachers will participate in the performance through a
"Teacher Dance"and children from Kindergarten to grade 5 perform cameos during the final
performance. The entire school and community, including parents and friends, are invited to the
culminating large-scale performance event. Since 2005,NC AIA has reached over 3800 North
Carolina students through direct instruction. Of our overall enrollment, over 50 percent receive
Free and Reduced lunch. The majority of our students mirror the demographics of Holt Elementary
School in Durham: 1%are Asian; 55%are Hispanic; 37%are Black; 5% are White; 0.5%are
American Indian; and 2%are two or more races.
Through the in-school residency model,in combination with NC Arts in Action's developed pedagogy,
and in alignment with NC Essential Standards, our instructional goals include:
• Use dance vocabulary to describe how elements of movement are used to communicate ideas in
dance.
• Understand cultural, historical, and interdisciplinary connections with dance.
• Use multiple perspectives and criteria in evaluating dances.
• Identify how other arts disciplines are integrated into dance creation and performance.
• Explain the influence of the choreographer's vision and intent on the creative process in dance.
• Interpret dance from personal, cultural, and historical contexts
NC Arts In Action is grateful for your consideration of this$1,000 request to help support these schools
offering this transformative program.Arts in Action reaches hundreds of public school students with an
internationally acclaimed curriculum and teaching methodology that truly changes lives. NC AIA looks
forward to the opportunity to continue this important partnership with the Orange County Arts
Commission to support children and schools most at need in our community.
