Brown Elementary Budget Statement
In an effort to be transparent with funders and potential funders, the Grady A. Brown Elementary
PTA would like to make the Orange County Arts Commission aware of a situation that occurred
during the 2014-2015 school year. The PTA was notified by the bank in January 2015 that a PTA
account was in the negative, and after an audit by Orange County Schools and thorough
investigation by police it was determined that the PTA President(allegedly)embezzled all of the
funds for personal use. This left the PTA with a.negative balance and an inability to fund programs
and events that had already been planned for this school year_At this point, the PTA president was
removed from the board, and the vice president took over as president. The board immediately put
into place an even stricter checks and balances system, including the creation of an "auditor"
position,to ensure this type of situation will not occur again.
The PTA immediately came together to brainstorm fundraising ideas so that the planned programs
could still take place. We are proud to report that as a result of three fundraisers (Cougar Cares,
Penny Wars and the Spring Bazaar)and overwhelming support from the community we were able
to generate enough money to keep the original budget intact and fund the programs planned for
this year.We feel the Grady A. Brown Elementary PTA is stronger than ever and are excited about
the future as we move forward.
