Communities In Schools believes all <br />students need and deserve these five basic opportunities in order to succeed in school and in <br />life: <br />1. A one on one relationship with a caring adult. <br />2. A safe place to learn and grow. <br />3. A healthy start for a healthy future. <br />4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation. <br />5. A chance to give back to peers and community. <br />At the local level, CIS Orange serves over 300 students annually who are at risk of dropping out <br />of school in grades 6 -8 at four middle schools in the district for Chapel Hill - Carrboro City <br />Schools. A list of current CIS Orange programs and services can be found below. <br />Current programs and services: <br />School -based programs <br />Afterschool programs <br />o Homework help /tutoring <br />o STEM and Arts, including: <br />• Bucket Drumming Residency <br />• Hands -on science experiments <br />• UNC Medical Student Enrichment Course <br />o Yoga <br />o Karate <br />School supply drives at area Walmarts <br />Summer programs including camps <br />
