This is done in Orange County by the adoption by the
Board of a pay classification plan. The period for filing notice of
candidacy for the upcoming; Sheriff's election begins January 4, 1982,
and ends February 1, 1932. The Executive Secretary of the Board of
Elections must know the salary of this position from the date the
newly elected person takes office in order to set the filing fee
(G.S. Section 163-107) for the office. Since Sheriff Knight has
announced his intention not to run for re-election and since the
present salary is based in part on the incumbent's loncievity in office,
the question of the salary for this position is timely.
4 Consideration of the natter must occur by giving notice of intent by
Board resolution no later than January 17, 1932 (adopted fourteen
days prior to the last day for filing candidacy for the office--
} G.S. Section 153A-•92).
Comparative salary information is attached.
Impact: Establish basis for filing fee.
Itcc r nn:7:gr.ion(s) : As the Board decides.
