I
WIA SUCCESS ARTICLES
Accounting for Adversity
Robin Fogleman was laid off from her job in human resources in
2012. She additionally experienced the sudden loss of both of her
parents. Robin decided that despite adversity she needed to further
her education for herself and her family. She had been unable to
find suitable employment even with credible work experience, and
found herself in need of a credential. Robin enrolled in the
Accounting program at Randolph Community College (RCC) in the
summer semester of 2012. While attending school her instructor
informed her about the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program
and Randolph Career Center. With only her husband employed,
funding her education without financial assistance was growing
extremely challenging. Ineligible for financial aid, earnings were
tight. Fortunately the WIA Dislocated Worker program began
providing financial training relief in July of 2012, sponsoring costs associated with Robin's
tuition, fees and books. While continuing her education, she obtained employment with J.P.
Thomas & Co in their Accounting Department in September of 2013. In May of 2014, she
graduated from RCC with her Associate Degree in Accounting. Robin is determined that she
does not want to stop with an Associate's Degree, and decided to continue her education
even further. She enrolled at Gardner Web University for the fall semester 2014 to work on
earning a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. She has a job, a degree, and a bright future.
Nursing Success
Crystal Williams was employed at a popular coffee shop but wanted badly to better her
personal circumstances for her three children, grandchild, and
herself.
