A
mothers day Partnership for Children tour was scheduled. Youth learned about milestones
associated with ages, the lending library, as well as arts and crafts for young children. A tour of
High Point University was held in the effort to help youth vision college life and understand the
benefits to furthering their education. The NC Battleship in Wilmington, NC was visited allowing
youth to explore one of America's most historic sites, and provided them with a chance to relive
moments in time by reading stories and looking at exhibits. A trip to the NC Aquarium at Fort
Fisher was also taken. Youth enjoyed seeing animals of all types from the fresh water streams,
swamps, to coastline habitats, reefs, and open oceans. They were most excited about their
opportunity to touch live sharks in the petting tanks. All left with fingers still attached. Fort Fisher
was also visited and youth saw firsthand
the remains of the Confederate Fort and
learned about the bloody battles held with
Union Soldiers through displays, artifacts,
and information.
•Several youth participated in the 8th t
Annual NC Youth Summit held in
Greensboro, NC on March 28th and 29th. 1
Those in attendance heard motivational
speakers that focused on leading to BATTLESHIP
change and planning futures.
NORTH CAROLINA
Montgomery and Moore Building Futures Youth on Battleship Tour
Annual Report 2013-2014 11
