1 <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: June 3, 2008 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 4 -~ <br />SUBJECT: Contract Renewal with Dr. Marat Dubrovsky, DVM,.DBA Nicks Road Veterinary <br />Clinic, for Spay/Neuter Surgery Services with the Animal Shelter Division of the <br />Animal Services Department <br />DEPARTMENT: ,Animal Services Department PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT (S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Contract Bob Marotto, Animal Services Director, <br />919-968-2287 <br />PURPOSE: To approve a contract renewal with Dr. Marat Dubrovsky, DVM, to provide <br />spay/neuter surgery services for Orange County's Animal Shelter at the unit price of $63 per <br />surgery during FY 2008-2009. <br />BACKGROUND: Orange County has contracted with Dr. Dubrovsky since July 1, 2005 to <br />provide spay/neuter surgery services for cats and dogs adopted from the Animal Shelter. Dr. <br />Dubrovsky has a successful record of adult and pediatric sterilization and Animal Services' <br />management recommends a continuation of his services. <br />Contract format and requirements are essentially the same for July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009. <br />The contract fee for sterilization will be a flat rate of $63 per animal; and for each sterilized <br />animal, a physical examination will be conducted and records prepared for. Orange County's <br />Animal Shelter. Also, there are select additional predefined charges for certain services that <br />can be performed on sterilized animals but only as authorized by management of the County's <br />Animal Shelter. (These are enumerated in Appendix A of the attached renewal contract.) <br />The sterilization surgeries authorized by this contract will continue to be performed by Dr. Marat <br />Dubrovsky at Nicks Road Veterinary Clinic. Authorization of this contract renewal with Dr. <br />Dubrovsky will continue to enable Orange County's Animal Shelter to sustain the sterilization <br />capacity that is critical to the adoption of sterilized animals that do not contribute to the problem <br />of pet overpopulation. <br />This contract is needed to ensure the continued availability of surgical services in FY08-09, <br />notwithstanding the substantial completion of the County's new Animal Services center, <br />including aspay/neuter suite, by the end. of this calendar year. Animal Services management is <br />
