4 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for all residents of Orange County, both urban and <br /> 2 rural, of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic and cultural backgrounds; <br /> 3 <br /> 4 NOW THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May <br /> 5 2015 as Historic Preservation Month and call upon the people of Orange County to join their <br /> 6 fellow residents in recognizing and participating in this special observance. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 THIS, THE 5th DAY OF MAY, 2015. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Price for the <br /> 11 Board to approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation designating May as Historic <br /> 12 Preservation Month in Orange County and recommended the Board to extend an invitation to <br /> 13 the public to support the preservation of the County's irreplaceable historic and archaeological <br /> 14 resources. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 17 <br /> 18 b. Older Americans Month Proclamation <br /> 19 The Board considered approving a proclamation joining Federal and State governments <br /> 20 in designating the month of May 2015 as Older Americans Month, and a time to honor older <br /> 21 adults for their contributions to society and to Orange County, and authorizing the Chair to sign <br /> 22 the proclamation. <br /> 23 Janice Tyler, Director of the Orange County Department on Aging, introduced Mary Kay <br /> 24 Kraft and Norma White, both who are Project Engage Leaders. <br /> 25 Mary Kay Kraft read the proclamation: <br /> 26 <br /> 27 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 28 Proclamation <br /> 29 Older Americans Month — May 2015 <br /> 30 Theme - "Get Into the Act" <br /> 31 <br /> 32 WHEREAS, Orange County includes over 23,000 persons aged 60 and older; and <br /> 33 <br /> 34 WHEREAS, Orange County includes a thriving community of older adults who deserve <br /> 35 recognition for their contribution and sacrifices to ensure a better life for future generations; and <br /> 36 <br /> 37 WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners is committed to helping all individuals <br /> 38 live longer, healthier lives in the communities of their choice for as long as possible; and <br /> 39 <br /> 40 WHEREAS, we recognize the value of community engagement and service in helping older <br /> 41 adults remain healthy and active while giving back to others; and <br /> 42 <br /> 43 WHEREAS, our community can provide opportunities to enrich the lives of individuals of all <br /> 44 ages by: <br /> 45 <br /> 46 ■ Promoting and engaging in activity, wellness, and social inclusion. <br /> 47 ■ Emphasizing home and community-based services that support independent living. <br /> 48 ■ Ensuring community members of all ages benefit from the contributions and experience <br />
